| When America's largest hunting and fishing catalog retailer decided to deliver their vision of the environmentally sensitive outdoorsman to market through 125,000 ft.² stores, lighting was pivotal to success. Entering the store, lighting immediately establishes theme and enhances the rusticated architecture. Accent lighting concealed by the structure dapples across artifacts, while custom designed chandeliers speak to the lodge vocabulary. Cast pewter animal ornament and craftsman detail which emulates naturalistic forms, are typical of the dozen custom project luminaries. The clerestory illuminated central spine celebrates the structural materials, bathed softly in daylight while at night enlivened with thematic pendants, sconces, and accent lighting. General lighting is accomplished with suspended fluorescent low brightness parabolic armatures and track lighting inconspicuously sandwiched between luminaries. This arrangement provides light penetration into difficult shelving configurations, regardless of orientation, and facilitates accenting of merchandise, graphics and themed structures. Control circuiting allows reductions in electric lighting when daylighting proves adequate. A river aquarium serves as the store's icon where filtered electric light simulates sunlight penetration while recessed accenting reveals rockwork and animals. Fitting imagery for one of the country's most innovative retailers. |
