Cardwell's at the Plaza

Cardwell's at the Plaza restaurant was the crowning touch to a multi-million dollar renovation of St. Louis' most upscale shopping mall. The lighting design's goal was to help create the look and feel of a French Country restaurant.

Softly lighted walls and gentle distribution downlighting provide an informal atmosphere in the casual dining area. Carefully positioned accent lights reveal the traditional imagery and color of French Provence. Light passing through hanging glassware above the bar creates a playful evening ambiance, dappling light on surfaces and patrons below.

The main dining room presents a relaxed charm, with highlighted artwork and sculpture providing the visual seasoning. After dark, the café appeal is reinforced with sunlight imagery recreated on the wall using theatrical lighting effects. Preset dimmer control scenes balance daytime and evening lighting conditions while extending lamp life and reducing overall energy consumption.

The artful blending of wide, narrow and patterned light distributions with warm sources allows Cardwell's to offer the guests a country getaway in the midst of an active urban mall, if even only for a few hours.
